Welcome to AEVA’s Styled By series. Here, we celebrate all those making waves in the creative industry and keep us inspired by exploring their personal style and views. Today, on our second volume of Styled By, we welcome our muse, Tara (@tarachanda_).
Hi Tara! We are absolutely elated to have you on AEVA’s Styled By series. For everyone reading and meeting you for the first time, please tell us about yourself!
Hi!! Thank you for having me on your series! I'm Tara Chandra, 26, born, raised & living in Eora (Sydney). I'm a 'full-time' fashion content creator, but most recognisable for my long eyeliner wings, fun hairstyles & eczema flare-ups.
Maximalism is a complex style to perfect, but in your case, you make it seem so effortless. What is your thought process when it comes to putting an outfit together where ‘more is more’?
'More is more' has been embedded into my mind that I don't even consciously think about it when I put together an outfit. I think this mostly stems from feeling like my outfit is incomplete when I'm not wearing my 20 rings, 8 bracelets, 6 earrings & chunky necklaces haha. In terms of clothing, I always re-wear my clothes but sometimes it can be boring to style it in the same way so I'm always thinking of different ways to wear pieces - whether that's pinning up skirts to create more dimension, layering pieces, or colour coordinating everything. I love the concept of More is More, but I also whole-heartedly stand by Less is Less because overconsumption is rampant in all aspects of our daily lives. Work with the pieces you already have to create the More, rather than buying new to create More.
You’ve had some super fun opportunities through your social media presence (like seeing THE Zendaya recently). What has been your biggest ‘pinch me’ moment so far and what are you manifesting for the future?
I'm so grateful for all the crazy experiences I've been able to have by being on social media! I always have to take a step back and reflect on it all because I dreamed of doing everything I'm doing now when I first started posting online 11 years ago. It's hard to say what the biggest pinch-me moment is because there have been so many over the years. Recently, being featured in Vogue India print & online was a huge one for me! Aside from this, all the overseas brand trips I've been on have been insane... And I'm definitely manifesting for more in the future!
Do you have a favourite fashion item that you own, whether it be something you love purely aesthetically or something sentimental?
I won't shut up about this pleated skirt I bought at a consignment store!! The seller said it was Issey Miyake, however, I don't think it is. I bought it anyway because it is so unique and it has been my favourite piece in my closet since I bought it.
When it comes to AEVA, which piece is your favourite and how would you add your twist to styling it?
I loveee the MIRA necklace, I've been wearing it every day since it arrived in the mail! This is a jewellery piece that needs to stand out on its own because it's exactly what 'More is More' means.
You have to get on a plane tomorrow, where would it be and what is your biggest motivation for picking this place?
Egypt!! It has been on my bucket list since I was a kid reading Horrible Histories and looking up books on the pyramids. I truly cannot comprehend how the pyramids were made so precisely, and to see them in real life would be incredible. I'm getting excited just thinking of it happening one day hahaha.
What are the current fashion trends that you absolutely adore and despise?
I will always say that if you like it, you should wear it. Mine/other people's opinions mean nothing! In saying this, I don't actively follow or pay attention trends so I'm not sure what's 'in' at the moment.
Do you have anything exciting coming up that you’d like to talk about?
My sister & I have been working on a beauty brand for sensitive skin! It's been 2+ years in the making and we're formulating something super exciting, which doesn't currently exist on the market. Our brand stemmed from my experience with eczema since I was a baby, the struggles I had wearing makeup during severe eczema flare-ups, and on the daily with extremely sensitive skin. We truly believe sensitive beauty and skin products should be the standard regardless of whether your skin is deemed 'sensitive' or not! We don't have a launch date yet, but stay tuned on my socials if you want to keep in the loop!
